RCMP have confirmed at a press conference minutes ago that a man is dead after a shooting incident with police just after 6 this evening (Friday)

Details are uncertain, but eyewitnesses told The Daily News on the scene that it appears RCMP officers shot the driver of a vehicle that had pulled into a gas station parking lot. on Tranquille Road

A rusted older-model Toyoto 4Runner remained lodged halfway into the So Espresso coffee shop, which sits on one side of the Robo car wash and Esso gas bar parking lot.

While it's yet to be confirmed, witnesses said the driver of the Toyoto was apparently shot after he put his vehicle into reverse and rammed the passenger side of an unmarked van, then lurched forward into the coffee shop.

Deanna Toth, who was walking on the street nearby just after 6 p.m., said the Toyota had pulled into the parking area of the Robo gas bar and a green Dodge Caravan with two police officers in it followed.

A man in his 20s who didn't want to give his name said he was inside the Robo convenience store getting his lottery ticket checked when the truck smashed into the van.

I hear pop, pop, pop, he said, not sure about how many gunshots he heard.

I saw a guy in a T-shirt pointing a gun, he said.

He (the Toyota driver) was bleeding from the head. . . . He didn't look like he was conscious at all.

Update to follow, with complete coverage in Saturday's edition of The Daily News.
